This course is a one off class recorded by Reid and Steve. The recording was done in November of 2023.

It focuses on how to take your skills to the next level for enterprise Power BI. We will also delve into important tools such as Tabular Editor and skills such as DevOps to ensure efficient management and maintenance of your models.

The training is relevant for data analysts, business intelligence professionals, IT professionals, and developers who work with Power BI. Participants should have a basic understanding of Power BI and data modeling concepts, including tables, relationships, and measures. Prior experience with Tabular Editor and DevOps is not required, but it may be helpful.

The modules covered in this course are as follows:

Enhancing the Model Design: In this module, you will learn how to create enterprise-grade design principles and recommended practices. It will look at configuring tables, columns, hierarchies, and measures.

Adding Enterprise-Grade Model Features: This module covers advanced features such as incremental refresh and very large datasets. We will add model level metadata, plus design for model reuse and use in Excel.

Deploying & Managing Content: This module focuses on the deployment of Power BI models and how to manage the content effectively. It covers version control, DevOps, and build and deployment pipelines. We’ll look at a range of tools such as Tabular Editor, Visual Studio, Azure DevOps, or GitHub. We’ll cover all terminology at a introductory level so you won’t get left behind.

Maintaining the Model Lifecycle: In this module, you will learn how to maintain and update your Power BI models effectively. You will learn publication options, how to configure datasets, refresh and monitor datasets, configure workspaces, and control workspace access.

Sharing Power BI Content: This module covers different sharing strategies for Power BI content. You will learn about sharing distributing content with Apps. You will also learn how to collaborate with workspaces and compare different sharing techniques.

Enforcing Permissions & Security: This module focuses on how to enforce permissions and security in your Power BI models. You will learn how to configure role-based access control (RBAC), implement RLS and OLS, and apply security labels. We’ll learn some common data leak pitfalls and how to avoid them.

Prerequisites:

Familiarity with deploying shared datasets, using workspaces and apps, report/dataset versioning, and a basic understanding of what security or governance means within the Power BI ecosystem.
